1. Introduction
Bolt Messenger (collectively “we”, “us”, or “our) allow users to share photos and doodles with their friends and to connect with people they might know (our “Services”). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy (”Policy”) describes how we collect, process, share, and safeguard Personal Data that is collected through or in connection with the Services. It also tells you about your rights and choices with respect to your Personal Data, and how you can contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
2. Personal Data we collect
We collect Personal Data about you from different sources listed below. In this Policy, “Personal Data” means any information related to an identified or identifiable individual, and does not include data whereby personally identifiable information has been removed (such as anonymous data).
Personal Data You Provide to Us
- Account information: When you create an account with us we collect your name, email.
- Mailbox anchors: When you set up a mailbox, you select a public location such as a mall or post office using Apple MapKit. This selection is not device GPS data and does not involve continuous tracking. We collect the mailbox anchor only to enable the turtle delivery feature, which determines how long messages take to arrive. The mailbox anchor is symbolic and does not represent your real physical address. We do not collect personal addresses, and this data is not used for advertising, analytics, or any purpose outside of the mailbox feature.
- Photos and doodles: When you choose to send a photo to a friend, you provide Bolt Messenger with the photo taken and associated metadata, including the file type and size, and the time the photo was taken. Photos and doodles are stored securely in our third-party backend services.
- Correspondence and other communications: When you contact us, including about our Services, via email, social media, or by other means, you provide us with Personal Data, such as your name, email address, and the content of your communications.
- Payment information: Payment is only processed in-app through Apple Pay. We do not have access to your full payment card information. We do not store your name, payment card information, or billing information.
Information Collected via Automated Means
- Device data: We collect information about your device such as your general location information such as city, state or geographic area.
- Usage data: When you access and use the Services, we receive and store information about interactions with our Services, including pages or screens you viewed, navigation paths between pages or screens, and information about your activity on a page or screen.
3. How we use your Personal Data
We will use your Personal Data for one or more of the purposes set out below:
- To provide you with the Services. We use your Personal Data to operate, maintain and provide you with the Services to perform any contract we have with you under the Bolt Messenger Terms and Conditions. In particular we use Personal Data to allow you to create and use an account and upload photos to share with friends. The Personal Data we process when doing so includes your account information, contact details of your friends and photos you choose to upload.
- To enable the core mailbox feature. When you set up a mailbox, you select a public location such as a mall or post office using Apple MapKit. This selection is not device GPS data and does not involve continuous tracking. We use the mailbox anchor only to calculate message delivery travel times between mailboxes, which is the central mechanic of the app. The mailbox anchor is symbolic and does not represent your real physical address. We do not use this data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose outside of the mailbox feature. You may request to change your mailbox location by contacting us as provided in the “Contact us” section below.
- To provide you with support and to respond to your requests and complaints. If you reach out to us for support, it is in our legitimate interests to use Personal Data to respond and resolve your queries and facilitate support. The Personal Data we process when doing so includes your correspondence with us, your contact details, and to the extent applicable other Personal Data processed about you when you use our Services.
- To communicate with you about our Services. It is in our legitimate interests to communicate with you about our Services including by sending you announcements, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages. The Personal Data we process when doing so includes your contact details, account information and usage data.
